C.Y.D.O.T.

In 2008, Office of  the Narcotics Control Board or ONCB initiated an idea of encouraging youth groups that have persistently shown an interest in drug abuse prevention to form a network of youth against drugs community as another pier in narcotics prevention and control strategy along with the government sector and the civil sector.

Coordinating Centre of Youths against Drugs Organisations of Thailand or C.Y.D.O.T. was then established for this purpose. There was a three-year strategy for the establishment of CYDOT. The first year targeted at bringing together ten (10) most active youth against drugs organisations in Bangkok as a core group of the national CYDOT. The second and third year aimed to establish CYDOT at regional level and provincial level respectively.

In the beginning, CYDOT had ONCB and the ASPAC-NGO or Asia and the Pacific Non-Government Organisation for Drug Abuse Prevention as their mentor organisations. ONCB has issued an ONCB Regulation on the Establishment of Coordinating Centre of Youths against Drugs Organisations of Thailand or C.Y.D.O.T. as a youth organisation attached to ONCB. CYDOT was expected to be instrumental in instilling the mindfulness and volunteer spirit among the youth in Thailand. Through CYDOT, youths are encouraged to initiate and take part in drug abuse prevention campaigns, monitoring the problem and other proactive prevention activities. The mission of CYDOT covers various aspects of demand reduction, ranging from primary or universal prevention, targeted or selective prevention, and indicative prevention to follow-up and aftercare activities as well as monitoring of new substances and abuse patterns.
